This module provides advanced, applied training in psychological assessment as a core competency in Industrial Psychology, aligned with the professional standards and ethical expectations of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Students will develop a critical understanding of the historical and theoretical foundations of psychological assessment and examine the use of assessment methods such as interviews, psychometric tests, and assessment centres in organisational contexts. The module emphasises evidence-based, fair, and contextually appropriate assessment practices, with practical training in administering, analysing, interpreting, and reporting selected assessment tools for purposes including recruitment and selection, leadership development, learning potential, aptitude, and career decision-making. Ethical practice, professional accountability, and scope of practice are embedded throughout the module. On completion, students should be able to apply psychological assessment tools responsibly and competently in line with HPCSA requirements for professional practice in Industrial Psychology.
